Manuel Yúfera Ginés received his doctorate in biology from the University of Seville (1982). He is currently Professor of Research of IPOs and responsible for the group of "Fish Physiology and Sustainable Aquaculture" of the CSIC.

His line of research focuses on the biological bases that govern the development and physiology of fish feed for application to aquaculture production. In particular, these investigations have influenced the processes of ontogeny and food acquisition and processing to improve survival during the larval phase. His studies have been pioneers in the establishment of more complete planktonic food chains and in the design of microdiets in larviculture. In the last decade has studied in depth the digestive processes in juveniles in order to optimize digestive efficiency and growth, and therefore the overall sustainability of the production process. These studies have allowed to develop more realistic approaches for the evaluation of the digestive capacities in fish. For all these studies has used biochemical tools, metabolic, molecular and genomic.

He has participated in more than 45 national and international competitive research projects (mainly the State Plan and the European Framework Program), being principal investigator in 20 of them. He has also had several research contracts with companies in the sector.
