We are interested in describing the cellular and molecular adaptive mechanisms that occur in skeletal and cardiac muscle in response to contractile activity induced by swimming in fish.
We are using biochemical, cellular and transcriptomic techniques (microarray, RNAseq) to investigate skeletal and cardiac muscle response to swimming in vivo and to electrical stimulation of muscle cells in vitro.
In addition, we are interested in investigating the physiological role and regulation of glucose transporters in fish. Particularly, we are currently investigating the intracellular trafficking mechanisms of the insulin-regulated glucose transporter (GLUT4) in target insulin cells.
We are interested in describing the differences in intracellular traffic between GLUT4 of fish and mammalian GLUT4 and how these differences are framed in the evolution of control of glucose homeostasis in vertebrates.
